Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD)

All calls into our Computer-Aided Dispatch centers are digitally recorded to ensure accuracy and accountability. Our CAD systems monitor and transmit on both UHF and VHF frequencies simultaneously – giving our crews superior communication across all conditions. And better communication means better outcomes.

GPS & Fleet Tracking

Every MedStar ambulance is equipped with GPS and fleet tracking technology. Our dispatchers know exactly where each vehicle is, at all times. That means the closest unit gets routed to every call – no guesswork, no delays.

Power Stretchers (A Massachusetts First)

MedStar was the first ambulance service in Massachusetts to outfit every ambulance with power stretchers. With a touch of a button, our battery-powered hydraulic stretchers raise and lower patients without manual lifting – reducing discomfort, improving safety, and protecting our crews from injury. Our stretchers support patients up to 700 pounds and set the standard for secure, stable transport.

We’re currently rolling out the Stryker PowerLoad system across our fleet – a next-level investment in crew safety and caregiver well-being. PowerLoad automates stretcher loading and unloading with a single-hand operation, virtually eliminating the physical strain of loading patients into the ambulance.

State-of-the-Art Dispatch Center

Our primary dispatch center is based in Leominster, MA, and is built to handle high call volumes and emergency situations without interruption. It’s equipped with the latest radios, cellular-based radio technology, and redundant systems specifically designed to stay operational during disasters.

Zoll Respond on iPads

Every ambulance runs Zoll Respond on an iPad, giving crews real-time communication with dispatchers, one-touch response confirmation, and intelligent routing that accounts for traffic and road conditions. Crews also use Zoll ePCR to complete electronic patient care reports directly from the field. The system integrates with dispatch, Zoll cardiac monitors, and billing software, creating a seamless, secure flow of information from the moment a call is received through final documentation. It’s fast, connected, and built to keep providers focused on patient care rather than paperwork.

Bariatric Stretchers

Our bariatric transport stretchers accommodate patients up to 1,600 pounds and are designed for ease of transport using standard fastener configurations. Every patient gets the right equipment.

LUCAS 3 CPR Device

All MedStar 911 ambulances are equipped with the LUCAS 3 CPR device. LUCAS 3 delivers continuous, consistent chest compressions during transport, freeing our providers to administer advanced therapies and medications without interruption. It’s a critical tool for the most critical moments.

Stryker Stair Chair

A single crew member can safely operate our stair chair to assist patients in multi-level facilities or challenging environments. The patented design is scientifically proven to reduce operator injuries – protecting patients and crew members alike.

Zoll X Series Advanced 12-Lead Cardiac Monitors

Every ALS unit carries the Zoll X Series cardiac monitor – one of the most advanced monitoring platforms available in EMS today. These monitors measure CO2 levels, take blood pressures, and deliver precise defibrillation calibrated to the individual patient. They can also transmit 12-lead ECG strips electronically to emergency departments before the patient arrives, giving receiving teams a head start on care.

Zoll Z Vent Ventilators

Our Zoll Z Vent ventilators are purpose-built for EMS use by paramedics, respiratory therapists, and trained emergency personnel. Lightweight and self-contained, they support adults, children, and infants – and allow for CPAP and BiPAP – across both emergency and non-emergency transports.
